UMLAC, UNICAL, and The University of the West Indies Sign a Memorandum of Understanding

St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago - August 28, 2025. Maharishi University of Latin America and the Caribbean (UMLAC), Universidad Integral del Caribe y America Latina (UNICAL), and The University of the West Indies (UWI), through its St. Augustine Campus, signed a Memorandum of Understanding designed to stimulate and facilitate mutually beneficial collaborative programs and activities.

The agreement establishes a cooperation framework to strengthen intellectual life, research, cultural development, and collaboration with reputable organizations. UWI participates in the memorandum through its St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago, bringing a regional higher education, research, innovation, public service, and intellectual leadership mission in the Caribbean.

The areas of collaboration identified include Integrative Medicine and Integrative Health Sciences. Activities contemplated by the MOU include jointly offered academic programs, student and faculty exchange, internship opportunities, collaborative research and development, scholarly publications, academic conferences, and partnerships with national and international organizations.

Implementation of the contemplated activities would be carried out through the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UWI and the faculties of UMLAC and UNICAL, or through mutually approved affiliated organizations or representatives. The memorandum also states that specific projects must be developed through definitive agreements that define scope, terms, financial arrangements, intellectual property, and the corresponding institutional approvals.

With this step, UMLAC and UNICAL expand their academic network in the Caribbean and open a new university dialogue channel around education, research, and integrative health.
