UMLAC Opens Call for Medical Specialist in Integrative Ayurveda, Directed to Physicians in Latin America and the Caribbean

From Curacao, and in alliance with accredited medical and Ayurvedic institutions, Maharishi University of Latin America and the Caribbean trains physicians to recognize the systemic patterns underlying symptoms, the basis for comprehensive diagnoses and individualized care protocols.

Curacao, June 21, 2026. Maharishi University of Latin America and the Caribbean (UMLAC), an institution of higher education legally constituted as a foundation under the laws of Curacao, announces the academic call for the postgraduate program Medical Specialist in Integrative Ayurveda, directed to physicians and health professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The proposal is not centered on a technique, but on a clinical capacity. UMLAC trains physicians to recognize the systemic patterns underlying a patient’s symptoms, a reading that forms the basis for comprehensive diagnoses and individualized care protocols. Within this framework, the program situates Ayurveda as a traditional system read with university-level and contemporary criteria, with emphasis on prevention and the systemic understanding of health. The training expands the professional’s practice from an integrative approach, without replacing conventional medical care or displacing established clinical standards.

The call comes at a moment of international attention to the field. In May 2025, the 78th World Health Assembly adopted the World Health Organization’s Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034, whose first objectives are to strengthen the evidence base and ensure the safety and regulation of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine. In October 2025, the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine was held in Rio de Janeiro, for the first time in Latin America. UMLAC orients its training toward that same standard of academic rigor, safety, and responsible integration, from the region and for the region.

This orientation is supported by an established network of academic cooperation. In February 2025, UMLAC signed a memorandum of understanding with Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved and Research Centre (DYPCARC) in Pune, India, the first Ayurveda institute in the country to achieve the NAAC “A++” grade and equipped with a NABH-accredited hospital. In 2023 it signed a framework cooperation agreement with the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, in Cuba, and in 2025 it signed a cooperation agreement with The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, in Trinidad and Tobago. These ties anchor UMLAC’s training in institutions with verifiable academic and clinical accreditation.

“Our purpose is to train physicians capable of recognizing the systemic patterns underlying symptoms and of incorporating Ayurveda responsibly, within a university-level and contemporary framework, without replacing conventional medical care,” said Prof. Carl Camelia, LL.M., Co-Founder and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of UMLAC.
